Southwest Calgary Real Estate

House prices in SW Calgary range from $220,000 for a small character bungalow in Richmond Park to $5.3 million for a sprawling luxury estate in Elbow Park or Bel Aire. Condos and townhomes in Southwest Calgary range from small studio apartments under $100,000 to $4.1 million for a luxury penthouse along the banks of the Bow River in Eau Claire.

 

The highest sale in Southwest Calgary in Elbow Park in 2009 for $10.3 million. Elbow Park is an exclusive inner-city neighborhood of stately mansions homes nestled along the banks of the Elbow River. This 8,500 square foot sandstone estate featured 6 bedrooms, home theatre and spectacular river and city views. It was owned by former Calgary Flames goalie, Mike Vernon.

 

Recreation in Southwest Calgary

With a plethora of parks and hundreds of km of pathways there are endless opportunities to get out and enjoy the fresh air in Southwest Calgary. Recreation enthusiasts have access to boating and sailing on Glemore Reservior which is surrounded by 4 outstanding parks - North Glenmore Park, South Glenmore Park, Weaselhead Natural Environment Park and Heritage Park to the east. Heritage Park is Canada's largest living historical village offering year round education bringing history to life from the 1860's to the 1950's.

Residents in Southwest Calgary have access to many great public recreation facilities including Westside Recreation Centre, the YMCA, South Centre Leisure Centre and the newly renovated Talisman Centre - a world class facility for both professionals and amateurs. Elbow Park in Southest Calgary is home to the prestigous Glencoe Club, a premier private sports and social club. Members of the Glencoe Club can also enjoy the Glencoe Golf & Country Club located out in Springbank.

Southwest Calgary Shopping

With an abundance of trendy retail districts and high-end downtown department stores, such as Holt Renfrew, Southwest Caglary has something to offer for everyone. Located on Macleod Trail and Glenmore, is Calgary's largest shopping mall, Chinook Centre which boasts more than 200 retail shops, several full service restaurants and a 16 screen movie theatre complete with arcade and IMAX. Acessibility to this mall is excellent since it's located only three blocks from the C-Train.

SouthCentre is another mall in the south and it is located on Macleod Trail and Anderson Road. This mall features most of the same retail shops as Chinook, but on a much smaller scale. Two of Calgary's largest outdoor shopping complexes, Westhills Towne Center and Signal Hill Centre, are located in the southwest. They feature dozens of retail outlets, several restaurants and a Cineplex Odeon movie theatre.
