It’s that time of year again – Calgary’s Best Neighbourhoods of 2018 is out! This annual survey is released each year to give Calgarians a chance to rank their own neighbourhood as well as learn about others. The survey is based on factors such as access to parks and pathways, walkability, the number of restaurants and pubs in the area and other qualities that are seen as desirable. Here at the northwest communities that made the top 25 this year: 

  • Arbour Lake #2
    This area is located adjacent to the large Crowfoot shopping area, with all the amenities you can think of: a grocery store, movie theatre, bookstore, clothing shops, gas stations, restaurants, etc.
  • Hamptons #3
    The Hamptons area is located just off Stoney Trail, with quick access a Costco, a prestigious golf club and many parks.
  • Bowness #5
    This Calgary community borders the Bow River and hosts a wide array of shops, restaurants and pubs for those walking the area and enjoying the river pathway.
  • Edgemont #6
    This area hugs the edge of Nose Hill Park, with good schools, quiet residential streets and a very low crime rate.
  • Crescent Heights #7
    This community touches both the northwest and northeast quadrants of the city, with residential areas as well as bustling shopping streets and quick access to downtown.
  • Brentwood #8
    Brentwood has a large shopping centre with all the amenities, access to Nose Hill Park and the University of Calgary a 10-minute walk or one CTrain stop away.
  • Dalhousie #11
    This community hosts a large shopping centre and a CTrain station that allows its residents commuter options, quick access to downtown and the University of Calgary.
  • Varsity #12
    This area is known for family and student living, with excellent schools in the area, quiet residential streets and the University of Calgary only minutes away.
  • Panorama Hills #14
    This community covers a large area and has a population of 25,000. It is home to a large shopping centre and has a relatively low crime rate.
  • Sunnyside #15
    This area is known for its trendy restaurants, cute boutiques, excellent transportation and proximity to downtown Calgary.
  • Tuscany #18
    The CTrain line was extended to reach this community in 2014, making public transportation and commuting to work much easier.
  • Rocky Ridge #21
    This most northwestern area in Calgary allows its residents a peaceful neighbourhood on the outskirts minutes away from the Bearspaw Country Club still with quick access to the city using Crowchild Trail.
  • Scenic Acres #22
    This area ranks extremely high in recreational facilities and community engagement, encouraging its residents to be active, both physically and in their community. 
  • Point McKay #23
    This community runs along the Bow River, consisting of a small, quiet residential community with immediate access to the river pathway.
  • Beddington Heights #25
    This area begs you to spend time outside, surrounded by Nose Hill Park, Nose Creek Parkway and the Country Hills Golf Club.

In the top 25 places to live in Calgary, the northwest holds 15 of them. If you’re looking to move or buy a house, you may want to consider one of these places for your next home.
